Flare Drums form a vital safety element in the production process. Opus account for worst case operating conditions to determine the safest and most efficient inlet design.
It is essential to ensure that the flare drum is effective in preventing liquid carry-over to the flare under all flaring conditions. Droplet tracking is used to determine the volume and droplet size of any liquid exiting the flare drum to guarantee it satisfies the specified limitations for the installed flare tip.
Opus determines flow conditions in the bare drum and then aims to improve them by undertaking a high level flare study using CFD techniques, to determine droplet size at the inlet and outlets of the drum.
High velocities of up to 200 metres per second need to be taken into account during the design, alongside an assessment of the flare gas and liquid level interfaces.
